Shaw Industries Embarks on Renewable Energy Venture with BHE Renewables

Pioneering Sustainability with Wind Energy Investment

Shaw Industries Group, Inc., a leader in the flooring industry, has taken a monumental step towards sustainability by forming a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with BHE Renewables, a sector of Berkshire Hathaway Energy. This partnership involves an investment in clean, renewable energy sourced from BHE Renewables’ Flat Top wind farm, a 200-megawatt facility in Mills and Comanche counties, Texas, operational since 2018.

A Commitment to Climate Action and Operational Excellence

Kellie Ballew, Shaw’s Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to being a catalyst for positive environmental change. This initiative is part of Shaw’s sustain[HUMAN]ability® strategy, aiming at meaningful impacts for both people and the planet. “Our latest endeavor with BHE Renewables is a continuation of Shaw’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship,” Ballew stated.

Shaw’s investment in renewable wind energy is projected to reduce its operational footprint by roughly 15 percent annually over the next 15 years. This effort supplements Shaw’s already significant achievements in reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by over 50 percent from a 2010 baseline, advancing towards its 2030 net zero operational goal. Notably, Shaw’s commercial carpet operations have been carbon neutral worldwide since 2018.

A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future

BHE Renewables President and CEO Alicia Knapp expressed pride in supporting Shaw’s sustainability vision. “We share their commitment to people and the planet and are excited to provide clean energy that assists Shaw in meeting its sustainability objectives,” Knapp remarked.
